Ahh, I've been slaving over this for months! Drawn in October, inked in November, finally completed in April. After spending days inking it, it took a lot of courage for me to dump blueish-gray gouache over the entire thing... thankfully it turned out a million times better than I imagined.

There are a lot of reasons why I did things to way I did. First of all, I wanted to use natural media in order to get texture and a certain... hand-made quality, I guess, but with mechanical or robotic subject matter. I also wanted to see if I could fill the entire page with their bodies, all the way to the edges, and still have a successful composition. I've also been wanting to do something mostly monochromatic, but not black and white. I feel very accomplished :B

As for the actual characters~ they had no story whatsoever when I first drew it, but I kept thinking of things for them as I went along... I decided that they're something like assassins, but they're kind of undead for the most part. They're really old, their bodies can't even function by themselves, and they need that machinery to keep them breathing and moving. And to make them a little creepier, I decided that when they talk, even though their lips move, their teeth never part. And their voices are really metallic and you can't tell where it's coming from. There's other things... I guess I made up this whole mythology for them XD But I don't intend to ever draw them again.
